Elsah, Ill. - The SBU men's basketball team ended their opening weekend of play with a win over Ohio Dominican University. Holding the lead for the majority of the second half, they finished with a narrow 56-54 win moving to 1-1 on the season.

Both teams had a slow first half but a late lay up by
Jevin Sullivan sent the Bearcats into the half with a one point lead. The offense came out strong in the second half as back-to-back three pointers by sophomore
Barron Silsby put SBU ahead six. Both teams stayed stagnant till the 12 minute mark when SBU had back-to-back dunks gave the Bearcats momentum. This led them to building a 14 point lead with less than seven minutes on the game clock. Ohio Dominican didn't net that phase them as they bounced back but late free throws by junior
Zac Reedus secured the win for the Bearcats.

Reedus led the team in scoring for the second straight game, this time with 18 tagging along five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Silsby had one of the biggest games of his young career scoring 14 points. Sullivan tagged along 14 points off a stellar 60% shooting from the field.
Lachie McKain and
Tyler Franklin contributed in other ways besides the scoreboard. Franklin led the team in rebounds with eight, while McKain had six with his four assists and two steals.

Bearcats will enjoy their trip back to Bolivar as they prepare for their home opener in just two days time. Monday evening they'll take on Ecclesia college at 7 p.m. in the Meyer Center.
