Bolivar, Mo. — Southwest Baptist University women's soccer team battled the Drury Panthers on the home pitch this afternoon at 4:00pm. The match ended in a tie of 1-1 which leaves the Bearcats with a current season record of 3-11-3 (1-9-3 GLVC).
SBU opened the game aggressively, keeping the ball on Drury's half for a stretch eventually leading to a goal in the 24th minute. The goal was set up by junior Anabelle Shuler and senior
Tamerra Gantt capitalized on the opportunity, putting the Bearcats up 1-0. The goal now puts Gantt at 8 goals on the season which is tied for 7th within the
GLVC, giving Shuler a second assist during the season.
Down a goal, the Panthers brought the pressure in the second half forcing SBU to hunker down and make stops. Dury scored a game tying goal in the last seven minutes where the game would end in a 1-1 tie. Sophomore goalkeeper
Cece Alexander making 6 saves of 7 shots on goal from the Panthers. The six additional saves puts her at second in saves per game in the GLVC.
While the Bearcats tied their rivals, they had a solid performance during the penultimate season game. Six players totaled 90 minutes in the game, SBU recorded 5 separate shots on goal, and they earned a point against one of the top teams in the conference.
The Bearcats will have their final game of the season and senior night this upcoming Sunday at 12:00 where they will play the Missouri S&T Miners. Come out to support the Bearcats, including seniors
