Bolivar, Mo. — Southwest Baptist University's women's volleyball team gave their all in their home match against the Quincy University Hawks Saturday,, but the team just missed the mark while the Hawks took all three sets.
SBU kept the margin tight each set but couldn't quite close, allowing the Hawks to go on a four point run at the end of the first set and a five point run at the end of the second set. The Bearcats went down swinging, going on their own five point streak at the beginning of the third set, but they eventually lost in a similar fashion to the first two sets. The final scores were 25-18, 25-17, and 25-17.
Overall, the defense from the Bearcats was the highlight, with SBU leading in blocks with double the amount as Quincy. Junior
Rory Stanley led the team with four blocks, followed closely by freshman
Gabriela Dupree and senior
Katie Pogue each with three blocks. SBU also had 45 successful digs throughout the match.
The team tied Quincy with five aces as SBU's
Allie Hawk recorded three. Freshman
Aubrie Fellmeth led the team in kills for the first time this season with eight.
The Bearcats look to improve their conference record in the following weeks, with an undefeated finish to the season leading to the possibility of a 7-6 conference record. Next weekend, SBU faces off against Truman State University on Friday, October 31 at 6 p.m. and against Upper Iowa University on Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m. Stay up to date with the final weeks of volleyball season by following our
