Bolivar, Mo. - The Southwest Baptist University Men's Soccer team battled nationally ranked Rockhurst University on Friday afternoon, falling 1–0 in a hard-fought GLVC matchup at the SBU Soccer Field.
The Hawks found the net early with a goal from Ozonna Ugbaja in the third minute, but the Bearcats responded with strong play in an evenly matched contest the rest of the way. SBU outshot Rockhurst 12–7 including five shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Jan-Henry Schafer made two key saves, while
Victor Valero,
Zinedine Cherik, and
Nadir Souak each registered scoring chances for the Bearcats. Despite multiple late pushes, SBU couldn't find the equalizer against one of the GLVC's top teams.
The Bearcats move to 6–8–2 overall and 3–7–2 in GLVC play, and will have a bye on Sunday before beginning the final weekend of play next Friday against Drury University at 1:30 p.m.
