Bearcats Finish Crossover with Commanding Sweep Over Lakers

Hammond, Ind. - SBU women's volleyball concluded a spectacular week with a commanding 3-0 sweep over the Lake Superior State Lakers. Now on a four game win streak, SBU heads home with an 8-12 record building momentum to finish the season strong.

Scoring 24 total more points than their opponents, the Bearcats held the Lakers to under 20 each set (25-13, 25-18, 25-16). Set one began with an early 8-2 lead for SBU which included four total blocks. Soon after senior Rory Stanley went off recording three kills within the span of five points. A 4-0 run by Southwest Baptist ended set one with a dominant 12 point victory.

Sets two and three were just as dominant as the first, with them only trailing once throughout the game. The Bearcats led by as many as eight points in set two before finishing it out 25-18. After trailing briefly in the third, SBU went on a 5-0 run including two team blocks and one ace. They finished the game on a 4-0 run with two aces from freshman Allie Hawk.

The Bearcat block has been a high point for SBU throughout this whole season, this included 13 in just these three sets alone. Entering this weekend the Bearcats averaged 2.21 blocks per set which is third best in the conference. With a total of 30 this weekend, they are now averaging 2.3 a set. Stanley tagged along eight assisted blocks and one solo throughout this game, leading the team.
