Kirksville, Mo. - The SBU women's soccer team began their final road trip of the season Friday afternoon in a battle with the Bulldogs of Truman State. Despite an early lead, the Bearcats weren't able to hold on as they fell by a final score of 2-4. This moves them to 3-10-1 overall with a 1-8-1 GLVC record.
It took less than two minutes for the Bearcats to strike first as freshman
Lydia Fickle notched her second goal early into her collegiate career. This goal was placed perfectly into the back of the net, just inside the 18 from a spectacular cross from senior
Tamerra Gantt. With that assist, Gantt now leads the team in goals (7) and assists (2) on the season.
That lead didn't hold for long as the Bulldogs bounced right back with a goal just two minutes later. With the game knotted at one Truman state would go on to score three more unanswered goals for a 1-4 lead. The Bearcats didn't give up as senior
Alyssa Villavicencio scored her first goal of her career in the final minutes of the game to end it 2-4.
With a day off, Southwest Baptist will return to the pitch on Sunday against the Cardinals of William Jewell. The game will kick off at noon in Liberty, Missouri.
