Late Goal Helps Bearcats Secure Draw with Quincy

Bolivar, Mo. —The Southwest Baptist men's soccer team battled to a 1–1 draw with Quincy University on Saturday afternoon at the SBU Soccer Field. The result moves the Bearcats to 4–7–2 overall and 1–6–2 in GLVC play, now with five points in the GLVC standings.

Though it was a scoreless first half, both teams had spectacular chances on net. The Bearcats had two big shots on goal within the first five minutes that were stopped by the Hawks goalkeeper. SBU goalkeeper Jan-Henry Schafer, had several key stops in the first 45 as well.

Quincy struck first in the 52nd minute when Josh Nwosu scored to give the Hawks a 1–0 lead. SBU continued to apply pressure and was rewarded late in the match when Ugo Morvan scored his second goal of the season in the 83rd minute, finishing a pass from Fisher Hudak to even the score at 1–1.

The Bearcats out shot Quincy 14–6, including a 7–4 advantage in shots on goal. Schafer recorded three saves, while the SBU defense held firm against a quick Quincy attack.

This is the Bearcats second draw in three matches and completes the weekend. Southwest Baptist will hit the road next Friday, October 17, for another conference matchup at Truman State (3-4-2).
