Bolivar, Mo. – SBU men's soccer fell Friday afternoon in a GLVC matchup as Upper Iowa University battled back from a first-half deficit to earn a 1-2 comeback at Plaster Stadium. This tough loss moves the Bearcats to 4-7-1 (1-6-1 GLVC) on the season.
Southwest Baptist opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when
Zinedine Cherik buried a goal off an assist from
Myles Paniagua. Cherik's first goal of the season gave the Bearcats a 1–0 halftime lead.
Upper Iowa responded in the second half with a goal in the 58th minute, to make it 1–1. Just under 20 minutes later, Florian Deick delivered the game-winner in the 76th minute on a setup from Eduardo Gomez Montt, completing the Peacocks' comeback.
The Bearcats out shot the Peacocks 18–9, with seven shots on goal to the Upper Iowa seven. Peacock goalkeeper Noah Nymark Pedersen tallied six saves to anchor the win, while Bearcat keeper Jan-Henry Schafer finished with two saves.
