Branson, MO - The SBU softball team kicked off the 2025 season Friday with two games at the DII Leadoff Classic in Branson, MO. The Bearcats dropped both games to start the season and now sit at 0-2.
Game 1 vs. Southern Nazarene University: L, 0-12
Junior
Shalie Wooden started on the mound for the Bearcats and finished with the loss after pitching into the 4th inning against #20 Southern Nazarene. After a run less 1st inning, SNU consistently scored 2 runs in each of the next three, before exploding for 6 in the 5th inning to end the game.
Margo Frossard, Angie Micone,
Kaitlyn Ragsdale, and
Hayley Sites all recorded their first hits of the season. Frossard also stole two bases, inching her closer to the SBU record.
Game 2 vs. Arkansas Tech University: L, 3-7
Game 2 included 5 innings on the mound from
Emma Kreisel. Arkansas Tech got on the scoreboard early in the bottom of the 1st. SBU responded in the top of the third as Angie Micone scored on a
Lexi Detwiler ground out to second base. The game continued to be back and forth when the Bearcats added 2 runs in the top of the 5th on an Angie Micone single up the middle, scoring
Margo Frossard. Then a well timed
Kate McConville attempted steal freed up Micone to score from third, squaring it up at 3-3. Arkansas Tech proved to be too much though, adding 4 runs in the 6th that sealed the game.
The SBU Bearcats will continue their early season play in Branson tomorrow as they face off against East Central University (2:00pm) and Oklahoma Baptist University (4:00pm).
