Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's basketball team returned home with power defeating the Quincy Hawks 80-73 moving them to 7-11 (4-8 GLVC) on the season.
It was a close battle early in the game, with the Hawks holding the leading for most of the first eight minutes. A 14-0 run from the Bearcats over three minutes pushed them out ahead 21-11. They continued to build on that momentum with monstruous dunks from
Jevin Sullivan giving SBU a 43-28 lead at half.
The Hawks came out firing starting 5-5 from beyond the arc, closing the gap to within seven. Three straight three pointers from both
Barron Silsby and
Drenin Dinkins extended the lead to 16. Quincy didn't quit bringing the game to within four, but strong rebounds from
David Hector helped the Bearcats maintain their lead and finish with the win.
After recording 31 points in a game his freshman season, now junior
Drenin Dinkins broke through that ceiling scoring 33 against the Hawks. This came from four three pointers and another career high 11 free throws made. His teammate
Jevin Sullivan didn't quite notch a career high, but did record his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman
Brandon Moore recorded a career high 16 points off an incredible 7-9 (77.8%) shooting.
Southwest Baptist will look to bring this momentum to Saturday's game as they play host to the mighty Upper Iowa Peacocks. They seek their first win against them in the Meyer Center with a 3:00pm tip.
