Bearcat Defense Leads SBU to Victory on Homecoming

Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU football team continued GLVC action Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Lincoln Blue Tigers on homecoming. Behind a packed crowd full of former and present Bearcats, SBU edged out the Blue Tigers to 17-13. They pick up their first conference win of the season moving to 2-2 (1-1 GLVC).

The Bearcats fell behind in the 1st quarter after a field goal from Lincoln, but quickly took the lead back in the 2nd quarter after a 45-yard touchdown run from Jeremiah Horn. That 7-3 lead went into half down 7-10 but was tied up with a Logan Turner field five minutes into the 3rd quarter. A 6-minute drive ending in a 3-yard touchdown pass from Regan Wilson gave the Bearcats a 17-10 lead which was enough to hold on for the win.

Sophomore Jobe Smith led the team in rushing with 73 total yards, including a long of 18-yard run. Horn continued to be the top Bearcat runner by average, rushing for 67 yards averaging 8.4 yards per carry. Wilson added another touchdown reception to his season as he brought in 71 yards worth of catches on Saturday. Junior Avery Lambert added 33 yards of receptions along with junior Kamau Ransom's 15 yards.

Redshirt Freshmen Caleb Saner and Jahaad Fort each had two sacks on the game with 14 and 9 yards lost respectively. Junior Levi Korir added an interception, a breakup and a solo tackle for loss of five yards to the game. Redshirt freshman Kaliel Boyd led all Bearcats in tackles with seven total, four solo.
