Football Falls to Miners in Rolla

Rolla, Mo. – The SBU football team took on the Missouri S&T Miners Saturday evening at Allgood-Bailey Stadium. The Bearcats fell to the miners 24-65 moving to 2-3 (1-2 GLVC) on the season.

Drew Boxwell and Kamau Ransom connected for the first Bearcat points of the game on a 45-yard receiving touchdown. That came in the final seconds of the 1st quarter tying the game up at seven. The next points for SBU came in the final seconds of the 2nd quarter where senior Logan Turner hit a season long 50-yard field goal.

After falling behind by 25 in the second half, Southwest Baptist fought back scoring two touchdowns within five minutes cutting the deficit to 11. Boxwell connected with Jordan Kent on an 80-yard TD reception, shortly followed by a Jobe Smith 1-yard TD run. The Bearcats were unable to stop the potent Miner offense after that.

SBU football will be back in action next week as they travel to Illinois to take on McKendree University. The Bearcat battle will take place at Leemon Field with a kickoff of 1:00pm.
