Women's Volleyball Sweeps Day One of Union Classic

Jackson, Tn. – The SBU women's volleyball team returned to action Friday afternoon after a long trip to Tennessee. The Bearcats swept the day defeating Catawba and the host Union University moving to 4-2 on the season.
 
"The team played with joy in their hearts and really battled for a 2-0 start to this weekend's tournament at Union Univ." Head Coach James Hanger said, "The home team had a loud and excited crowd that made for a fun match!"
 
In game one of the day, the Bearcats struggled to get rolling against the Chiefs of Catawba as they fell behind early down 0-2. Southwest Baptist roared back with a vengeance in the next two sets taking set three 25-16 and set four 25-13. In those two sets alone, the Bearcats turned up the attack combining for over a .300 attack percentage with 28 total kills. The continued to bring that momentum in set five as they completed the reverse sweep winning 15-12. Sydney McNeill had a game high 16 kills.
 
Game two against the hosts of the tournament favored the Bearcats as they won the match 3-1. In three of the four sets, both teams finished with 20 points or more including the final set where SBU won 26-24. As a team, they combined for a .291 hitting percentage across all four sets including a .405 hitting percentage in set four. Hannah Jackson and Ella Rademaker each tied for a game high 18 kills apiece.
 
In the two games combined, Ella Rademaker had a team high 32 kills. Katie Pogue and Logan Drennan each worked together to hand out assists as they each had over 45 assists each, Pogue with the slight edge of 53. The team had a combined 17 total blocks across the two games, with Rory Stanley leading all Bearcats with 11.
 
SBU women's volleyball will return to action Saturday, November 14th as they finish the Union Classic. Their day will begin at 1pm as they take on Southern Arkansas and then will finish the day at 5pm against University of Arkansas at Monticello.
