Skinner Sets Another SBU Record in Series Against Prairie Stars

Springfield, Ill. – The SBU Baseball team finished their last road series of the year this weekend against the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars. The Bearcats won one of the four games of the series making them 11-35 (8-24 GLVC) on the season

In game 1, four Bearcats took the mound with Eli Smock starting for the first 3 innings with 4 strikeouts. Zeke Skinner added to his historic season as he hit two homeruns to tie the SBU single season homerun record at 15 with 6 games remaining.

In game 2, Roberto Garcia started on the mound for SBU as he pitched for 3 innings with 2 strikeouts. Ayden Fetters would put the Bearcats on the scoreboard after a single RBI to right field.

Jaden Thacker secured the sole win of the weekend after pitching for 4 innings with three strikeouts. The Bearcats took the early lead in the 2nd to go up 3-0. In the 3rd, Tre Mungin hit his 5th home run of the season to extend the lead 5-1. The Bearcats continued to add to the score as both Raydley Legito and Dominic Tellez scored a homerun to make it 12-5. SBU would take the first game of the day with a final score of 15-6.

In game 2, the Bearcats carried their momentum from the first game as they took an early 2-0 lead at the top of the 1st. In the 3rd inning, Zeke Skinner hit his 16th homerun of the season to set the new SBU single-season homerun record. Along with Skinner, Colby Sneed also hit a homerun in the 3rd to make it 5-0. Unfortunately, the Prairie Stars would make a comeback to force extra innings to give the Bearcats a loss to end the weekend.

Southwest Baptist will be back at home next week as they host their Hwy 13 rival, the Drury Panthers in the last home series of the year. The first pitch is scheduled for Thursday, May 2nd at 5:00 PM at Dodson Field.
