Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU softball team continued their GLVC campaign Saturday afternoon as they hosted the William Jewell Cardinals. The Bearcats split the doubleheader with the Cardinals as they honored their nine seniors. The Bearcats move to 18-26 (7-13 GLVC) on the season.
In game one, the Bearcats fell behind early 0-4 but quickly battled back scoring a flurry of runs in the 1
st through 3
rd inning. It wasn't until the 4
th inning when
Margo Frossard hit a three run blast into deep center field to give SBU an 8-5 lead. The Bearcats held onto that lead winning by a final score of 11-6.
Paige Leithead recorded her 8
th win of the season, while
Emma Kreisel coming into pick up her 1
st save of the year. Senior
Maddie Romines hit her fourth home run of the season in the 5
th inning which gave SBU the winning run.
Game 2 was also a close game as the Bearcats fell to the Cardinals 5-6. The Bearcats fell behind early and found themselves in a 1-6 hole, but a four-run 5
th inning brought the Bearcats to within one. That inning was sparked from a
Chloee Sams double giving her three RBI's. Another double in the game didn't add to the score but found
Margo Frossard in the record books, as she hit her 34
th career double. She now holds the SBU career record in doubles, as only a junior.
Southwest Baptist were able to honor nine seniors in between games. These seniors include:
Kate McConville,
Karlee Kinder,
Ruby Davis,
Rylee Lunn,
Jade Montana,
Alyssa Reed,
Maddie Romines,
Chloee Sams, and
Paige Leithead!
The Bearcats will return home Sunday for one final doubleheader at SBU softball field this season as they host the Rockhurst Hawks. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm in Bolivar, Missouri.
