Springfield, Mo. – The SBU softball team returned to action after a week off Sunday afternoon as they traveled down Highway 13. The Bearcats took on their rivals in Drury Panthers, splitting the doubleheader moving to 17-25 (6-12 GLVC) on the season.
 
It was a close battle in game one, as the Bearcats took the lead early but were unable to finish it out as they fell 2-4. Southwest Baptist out hit the Panthers 10-5. Four different Bearcats had two hits on the game including Angelina Micone, Audrey Rahlmann, Emma Vincent, and Maddie Romines. Micone and Alyssa Reed were the only Bearcats to record RBI's.  
 
It was a pitcher's battle in game two, which was won by senior Paige Leithead who recorded her 7^th win of the season in the Bearcats 3-1 victory. She pitched all seven innings allowing only one run and throwing four strikeouts. Rahlmann hit the game winning RBI in the top of the 5^th inning as she sent home Micone. Chloee Sams and Grace Stearns were the only other Bearcats to record RBI's. Micone had her fourth straight 2-hit game in the victory as she is hitting .413 on the season, leading the team in both hits and batting average.
 
Southwest Baptist now has 6 GLVC wins this season, already two more than 2023. Sitting just a few games out of the conference tournament, the Bearcats will look for on last push in their last eight games of the season. They will begin next Saturday as they host the William Jewell Cardinals. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:00pm.
