Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Baseball team kicked off their weekend Friday as they hosted the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons. The Bearcats started off strong but were unable to hold back the Tritons as they fell 10-12 making them 9-26 (6-15 GLVC) on the season.
Starting on the mound for SBU was Eli Smock who pitched for 6 innings and tied his season-high in strikeouts with six. Kayden Lewis, Cody Gibson, and Colin Whited would also take the mound for the Bearcats before Jake Fuller came in to pitch the last 3 innings.
The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first after Sal Jacobo hit his 3rd homerun of the season for 3 RBIs in the 1st inning. They maintained this lead until the top of the 6th when the Tritons tied the score at 4. The Bearcats immediately responded with a four-run 6th inning when Zeke Skinner hit his 10th homerun of the season for 3 RBI's to make it 8-4. The Tritons would not go down without a fight however as they tied the score in the top of the 7th before SBU responded with 2 runs of their own to take back the lead 10-8. Unfortunately, the Tritons got the last say as they tied it again to force extra innings before taking the first game of the series.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action as they look to bounce back against the Tritons in a doubleheader matchup Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Dodson Field.
