Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU baseball team finished their series today against the Truman State Bulldogs. The Bearcats secured the series win picking up three out of the four games, their first four game conference series win since 2021. Today they beat the Bulldogs 4-3 to make them 8-14 (5-3 GLVC) on the season.
Starting on the mound for the Bearcats was Khalil V'azquez Torres as he pitched for a new season high 6 innings with 3 strikeouts and an impressive 1.50 ERA. Roberto Garcia would come in to relieve Torres before Colin Whited came in to finish on the mound for the Bearcats the last 2 innings, collecting the win to go 2-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs struck first to take the lead early in the 1st inning. It would remain 0-1 until the 4th inning after Ayden Fetters hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to allow Dean Hagenhoff to run home and tie the score 1-1. The Flyers regained the lead at the top of the 7th, but the Bearcats responded with 3 runs of their own in the 8th inning taking a 4-2 lead. The Bearcats held onto that lead through the ninth to claim their 5th conference victory of the season.
Southwest Baptist will hit the road for their first away conference series as they travel to Indiana to face the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds. The first pitch is scheduled for Friday, March 22nd at 3:00 PM at Bill Bright Field.
