Skinner Hits Fifth Homer of Season; Bearcats Split Day Against Bulldogs

Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Baseball team were back in action Saturday afternoon as they continued their series against the Truman State Bulldogs. The Bearcats split the day as they lost the first game 1-6 but bounced back to win the second game 14-4 to make them 7-14 (4-3 GLVC) on the season.

In game 1, starting on the mound for SBU was Jake Fuller who pitched for 3.2 innings with 3 strikeouts. Kayden Lewis came in to pitch for 2.1 innings with 3 strikeouts as well before Cody Gibson came in to finish the game. Sal Jacobo was the lone scorer for the Bearcats after he hit his 2nd homerun of the season in the 3rd inning.

In game 2, Jaden Thacker started on the mound for the Bearcats as he pitched for 5 innings with a season high of 4 strikeouts. Cade Langford came in to relieve Thacker as he pitched for the last two innings. The Bulldogs took the early lead in the top of the 1st but it would be short lived after Zeke Skinner hit his 5th homerun of the season to tie the score 3-3. Before the 1st inning ended, Dominic Tellez, Raydley Legito, Sal Jacobo, and Tre Mungin recorded an RBI each to give SBU the lead 7-3. At the bottom of the 2nd, SBU extended their lead after Colby Sneed hit a single up the middle to allow Dean Hagenhoff to score. The Bearcats would put the final nail in the coffin in the 5th inning as they recorded 6 runs to win the game 14-4.

Southwest Baptist will finish their series against the Truman State Bulldogs tomorrow as they look to win the series. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM at Dodson Field.
