Bearcats Claim First Game of Series Against Bulldogs

Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Baseball team kicked off their weekend tonight as they hosted the Truman State Bulldogs. The Bearcats put up a good fight tonight and showed their resilience as they came back to win 10-7 to make them 6-13 (3-2 GLVC) on the season.

Eli Smock started on the mound for the Bearcats as he pitched for 5.1 innings with six strikeouts. Colin Whited finished the game on the mound as he pitched for the last 3.0 innings, only giving up 1 hit and recorded the win.

Cayden Shaver gave the first lead of the game for SBU in the 4th inning after he hit his first homerun of the season for 3 RBIs. The Bulldogs would respond back with 6 runs in the 6th inning to put them up 7-4. The Bearcats did not go down without a fight as they recorded 3 runs of their own as Cole Reece, Cayden Shaver, and Mel Mulhollan ran home to tie the game 7-7. The SBU defense, led by Whited, kept the Bulldogs scoreless in the last few innings. On offense Raydley Legito, Sal Jacobo, and Xie Ferguson hit back-to-back-to-back singles, for an RBI each, to give the first win of the series to the Bearcats.

Southwest Baptist will look to carry their momentum into tomorrows' doubleheader against the Truman State Bulldogs. Game 1 is scheduled for 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM at Dodson Field.
