Searcy, Ark. – The SBU Baseball team kicked off their 2024 season today as they faced off against the Harding University Bisons. The Bearcats would fall in both games against the Bisons making them 0-2 on the season. 

In game 1, junior Eli Smock would start on the mound for the Bearcats as he pitched 4 innings recording three strikeouts. Fellow junior Roberto Garcia would come in after Smock to pitch the remaining 4 innings as he recorded 2 strikeouts in their 0-7 loss.  

In game 2, the Bearcats would strike first after a wild pitch allowed Dean Hagenhoff to make it home for the first run of the season. Senior Tre Mungin and junior Mel Mulholland would score the next two runs for the Bearcats in the 3rd and 4th innings, tying the score 3-3. Unfortunately, the Bisons would pull away in the fifth inning resulting in a 3-11 loss to the Bearcats. Sophomore Cade Langford started on the mound for the Bearcats as he pitched for 4.1 innings recording 2 strikeouts. 

Southwest Baptist will finish off the weekend tomorrow as they play Harding for the third and fourth time. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
