Topeka, Mo. – The SBU softball completed day two of the Washburn Invitational this afternoon. The Bearcats split the day dropping the first game and winning the second. They move to 5-7 on the season.
"I'm super proud of this team and the perseverance they showed." Head Coach
Tripp Swisher said, "The energy was really good the whole day and we finally had some clutch moments."
In game one, the Bearcats fell behind early 2-9 but battled back scoring six runs in the 3
rd inning. Bearcats fell in the end 8-17.
Emma Vincent led the team in in RBI's with three then
Margo Frossard and Haley Sites tagged along two a piece.
Southwest Baptist took on Northwest Missouri in game 2 of the day defeating them 5-4. It was the stellar pitching of junior transfer
Emma Kreisel who pitched all seven innings including five scoreless innings. She helped the Bearcats hold a 3-0 lead heading into the 6
th inning.
"I think today's game vs Northwest was exciting and successful because of the energy and great attitude from everyone on and off the field!" - Kreisel said.
That lead that Kreisel gave SBU took them to the top of the 7
th, before a 2-run homer from Northwest gave them a 3-4 lead. Then a tying home run from
Maddie Romines and a walk off double from
Alyssa Reed gave SBU the win. Romines led the team recording three RBI's on the game.
"Giving God all the glory for this special moment and win as a team." Romines said, " I had to rest in the abilities he's instilled in me rather than using my own strength to force the outcome"
