Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Baseball team was back in action today as they finished their series against the McKendree Bearcats. SBU would come out on top in the first game winning 13-12 but fell in their second 10-17 making them 1-10 on the season.
In game 1, Jake Fuller started on the mound for SBU as he pitched for 2 innings. SBU took the lead in the first inning after Zeke Skinner hit his first home run of the season allowing him and Dominic Tellez to score. In the 3rd inning, Dean Hagenhoff also hit his first home run of the season as he recorded 2 RBIs. Hagenhoff would score his second home run of the day in the 5th inning, bringing the score to 7-12. SBU struggled to keep the lead until the bottom of the 7th inning when Ayden Fetters hit a walk-off grand slam to left field giving SBU their first win of the season.
In game 2, Sal Jacobo started on the mound for SBU as he pitched for 4 innings recording 3 strikeouts. SBU struggled to get on the scoreboard in game 2 until the bottom of the 6th inning when Dean Hagenhoff hit his third home run of the day as he recorded 3 RBIs. In the next inning, Zeke Skinner hit his second home run of the day to bring the score to 10-12. Skinner is now 10 home runs away from breaking the SBU career home run record.
Southwest Baptist will be back at home next week as they host the Parkside Rangers before going into GLVC play. First pitch is scheduled for Friday, March 1st, at 5:00 PM at Dodson Field.
