Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Baseball team had their home opener today as they faced off against GLVC mascot twin, the McKendree Bearcats in a non-conference matchup. SBU would fall to McKendree 8-10 and 5-14 making them 0-9 on the season.
In game 1, Eli Smock started on the mound and pitched for four innings, recording one strike out and credited with the loss. Roberto Garcia came in to relieve in the 5th inning, pitching three strong innings, only allowing 3 hits and recording two strikeouts. Junior Zeke Skinner began returning to form as he led the team in RBI's with three out of the teams' seven. Sal Jacobo had a great game recording three hits, scoring two runs, and turning the teams' sole double play.
In game 2, Cade Langford would start on the mound as he pitched for 2.1 innings securing one strikeout while being credited with the loss. Tre Mungin turned up the heat in game two recording three hits off four at bats, scoring three runs. His two RBI's in the game tied for the team lead as he had SBU's only home run in the game. Dominic Tellez had a solid day for the Bearcats as he had a home run in game one, with a double and one RBI in game two.
Southwest Baptist will look to bounce back tomorrow as they finish their series against the McKendree Bearcats. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Dodson Field.
