Pittsburg, Kan. – The SBU Baseball team was back in action today as they finished their series against Pittsburg State. The Bearcats would fall in both games moving to 0-7 on the season.
In game 1, senior Sal Jacobo started on the mound for the Bearcats as he pitched for three innings with two strikeouts. The Bearcats got on the scoreboard in the top of the 2nd inning as freshman Xie Ferguson scored after junior Sterling Jackson hit a fly ball to center field. Jackson recorded his 2nd and 3rd RBI At the top of the 4th, Jackson would hit his first home run of the season sending Colby Sneed around the bags for a two-run homer.
In game 2, freshman Cade Langford started on the mound for SBU pitching for 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Freshman Colin Whited came in to relieve Langford as he pitched for 1.2 innings securing two strikeouts. Junior Khalil V'asquez Torres and sophomore Sam Peterson pitched the last inning for the Bearcats as Peterson would get one strikeout.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action this week as they host GLVC mascot twin, the McKendree Bearcats for their 2023-24 home opener. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM on Friday, February 23rd, at Dodson Field.
