Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's basketball team dominated the reigning GLVC Champions William Jewell with a 74-59 victory Saturday afternoon. Their second straight GLVC win moves them to 5-3 (3-1 GLVC) on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jewell got out to an early 6-2 lead, as the Bearcats struggled to score
- 1 tie and five lead changes later the Bearcats took a 17-15 lead
- The Bearcat defense constricted the Jewell offense holding them scoreless for 10 straight minutes
- The next Jewell point was at the 2:30 mark in the first half as Bearcats held a 20-point lead
- At half Southwest Baptist led 38-20; the fewest points SBU has allowed in a conference half in over five years
- The second half wasn't strong defensively but SBU started out a perfect 7-7 from the field, extending their lead beyond 20
- Trailing by as many as 23, Jewell made multiple attempts to come back but couldn't get past a 15 point deficit
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Mitch Ganote scored a season high 21 points off an impressive 75% shooting from the field
- He also led the team in rebounds with seven to go along with four assists and one steal
- David Hector has continued to be a spark for the Bearcats scoring 11 points, bringing down five rebounds, and leading the team with five assists
- Bayley Crawford and Drenin Dinkins each scored double figures with 10 & 11 points respectively
- 46 of the teams' 74 points were scored in the paint
- With so many points scored in the paint, SBU shot over 50% in both halves
- SBU out boarded the Cardinals 38-22

The Bearcats will play two more non-conference games before Christmas break, the first being Monday, December 16
th. They will host Williams Baptist in the Meyer Sports Center at 6:00pm.
