Quincy, Ill. – The SBU women's Basketball team traveled to Illinois this afternoon to take on the Hawks of Quincy University. The Bearcats struck first and never looked back as they won the game 68-65. Their third conference win of the season moves them to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in GLVC play.
"This was a great win for our team. We feel like we missed the opportunity to win at home on Wednesday because we simply did not control the controllable and the game was dictated by William Jewell." Head Coach
Wyketha Harrell said, "I challenged our players this game to lock in on our three controllables: layups, free throws, and rebounds on the offensive end while limiting straight line drives, uncontested shots, and again, rebounds on the defensive end and they did well."
The Bearcats started out the game strong taking an early nine-point lead then extended that lead to 13 by the end of the first quarter. Despite heading into halftime up by 13 as well, the Hawks fought back early in the second half to make it a close game. Seven straight points from junior
Tori Hamilton in the 4
th quarter helped the Bearcats weather the storm and hold for victory.
Hamilton tied her career high with 20 total shooting a strong 8-11 (73%) from the field. She also tagged along seven rebounds and one block. Senior
Karlee Holland had her second straight big game scoring a total of 17 points against the Hawks. She went 4-7 from beyond the arc while contributing three assists and two rebounds.
Bianca Oliver had a near double-double with eight points and eight rebounds, four of those being offensive.
"It wasn't perfect but what we did was good enough to put us in position to win and by God's grace, we won! We certainly played and felt more like a team. I'm proud of their bounce back!!" -Harrell
