SBU’s Win Streak Ends in Tough Loss to Cardinals

Bolivar, MO – The SBU Women's Basketball team returned to conference play tonight as they hosted the William Jewell Cardinals. The Bearcats would fall to the Cardinals 68-61, ending their four-game win streak and making them 6-6 (2-4 GLVC) on the season.

SBU would put up a good fight in the first half as they kept the Cardinals within reach before going into the half only down by 1. In the second half, the Bearcats were able to continue to put the pressure on, but it would not be enough as the Cardinals pulled away as the game went on. However, the Bearcats did not go down without a fight as they made it a two-point game with less than a minute left. It would not be enough in the end as the Cardinals pulled away to end the Bearcat's four-game win streak.

The Bearcats were led by senior Karlee Holland who put up 20 points for SBU, tying her career-high in three points made with four. Behind Holland, fellow senior Kallyn Stumbo, who has been a key player for the Bearcats, finished the game with 6 points, 6 assists, and 7 rebounds. Sophomore Kristin Edmonds and junior Odett Schlegl would also contribute to the Bearcats as they put up 7 and 6 points respectively.

Southwest Baptist will look to bounce back as they hit the road to Illinois to battle the Quincy University Hawks on Saturday, January 6th. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM in the Pepsi Arena in Quincy, IL.
