Quincy, Ill. – The SBU football team opened conference play this afternoon as they battled the Hawks of Quincy University. The teams battled back-and-forth, but the Hawks came out on top 33-38. That moves the Bearcats to 1-4 (0-1 GLVC) on the season.
It was a record setting day for junior Logan Turner as he broke a 20-year school record. Shortly into the fourth quarter, Turner stepped up and sniped a field goal for the 27th time in his career setting a new SBU record. Not too long later he had a personal best and tied an SBU record with a 52-yard field goal. He has been perfect this season, making all 11 field goals he has attempted, currently leading the Nation.
Senior Abel Carter had a season high 146 net rushing yards, reaching 100 for the first time this season. Kylan Herrera led the team in receptions with seven for a total of 88 yards. He has been the top target this season already bringing in 20 catches and edging over 400 receiving yards.
Southwest Baptist will return to Bolivar for their annual homecoming next Saturday. They will host the Bearcats of McKendree University at Plaster Stadium at 1:00 PM.
