SBU Men's Tennis Takes Down #7 Ranked Northwest Missouri

Springfield, MO. – The SBU men's tennis team battle Northwest Missouri University in the battle of the Missouri Bearcats this afternoon. SBU came into the match ranked 18th in the ITA poll whereas Northwest came in ranked 7th. Southwest Baptist pulled off the upset defeating Northwest 4-3, picking up their second top-10 victory of the season, moving to 7-7 on the season.
 
"It's always a good fight against the green Bearcats. We got 3 crucial third set wins, they showed guts today. I'm proud of them." -Head Coach Joao Almeida.
 
SBU opened the match winning the doubles point with Makary Adamek and Marco Silva collecting a big win over their 10th ranked doubles opponent 6-1. Alvaro Nunez and Yousef Nabil clinched the point the point with a 6-3 victory over their opponents.
 
In singles, Makary picked up his second win of the day defeating his 24th ranked opponent 2-6, 6-4, & 6-3. In the #3 spot, Marco Silva gave SBU their third point of the match with a 7-6, 5-6, and 7-5 victory. Northwest would win two more points to tie the game at 3 forcing a final singles match to determine a winner. After dropping the first set, junior Mikar Fisher came up clutch winning the next two sets giving him the singles point and his team the victory.
 
They will return to action tomorrow, March 17th, as they host 41st ranked Harding University at Cooper Tennis Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM.
