Joplin, Mo. – The SBU baseball team kicked off their season this afternoon as they battle St. Cloud State in a neutral site game at Missouri Southern. The Huskies received votes in the National preseason poll and the Bearcats were unable to keep up with them falling 0-17. That moves them to 0-1 on the season.
Senior
Cole Van Every (0-1) started on the mound for the Bearcats, recording the loss pitching five innings. Despite allowing a home run to the first batter, he was nothing but solid until he was taken out prior to the 6
th inning. He pitched a full five innings allowing three total runs, but only one of them was earned. Van Every allowed four hits and four walks and struck out two batters.
The cold weather affected the Bearcats bats as they struggled to get on a roll with only three hits on the day. Senior first baseman,
Kyler Charchun, recorded the first hit of the season in the 1
st inning with a 2-out double. Trey Mungin and
Kayden Lewis were the two other Bearcats to record hits on the day.
The Bearcats will return to action tomorrow for a double header against Missouri Southern and a rematch against St. Cloud. First pitch against the Lions is scheduled for 12:00 PM and a 3:00 PM start against the Huskies.
