Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's basketball team looked to extend their win streak this afternoon as they hosted Maryville University. The bearcats avenged their loss to the Saints and extended their win streak as they won 87-66. That moves them to 17-7 (9-7 GLVC) on the season.
"I think we are playing better; I think we are starting to get some confidence." Head Coach Clark Sheehy said, "I feel like we are starting to see some execution things that we have been working on and guys are starting to play with some juice and some bounce, and I think we are guarding. We aren't turning the ball over as much as we were. Those are things that we need to do well here down the stretch run to give us a chance."
Graduate guard
Quinn Nelson led the team in scoring with 26 points off 66% shooting. He was sharp from downtown as he went 6-11 from beyond the arc while also dishing out four assists. Junior
RJ Crawford and redshirt freshman
Noah Franklin also hit double digit points with 17 and 13 points respectively.
Senior guard
Mitch Ganote had a career day eclipsing the 1,000-career point mark, scoring 12 on the day. With this mark he became the first player in SBU history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, and 400 assists. In today's game he also recorded his 10
th double-double of the season with 10 assists and pulling down six boards.
Southwest Baptist will return to action on Thursday, February 16
th as they begin their final road trip of the season. They will battle the Lewis Flyers in Romeoville, Illinois with a scheduled start of 7:30 PM.
