Romeoville, Ill. – The SBU men's basketball team began their final road stretch of the season tonight as they took on Lewis University. Nine different Bearcats made it into the scoring column in a 78-68 victory over the Flyers. Their fourth straight win moves them to 18-7 (10-7 GLVC) on the season.
"Thought our guys really defended in the second half. I thought also one big key was to have zero turnovers in the second half." Said Head Coach Clark Sheehy.
Tonight's game was not only a big win for the Bearcats, but Graduate guard
Quinn Nelson became the SBU All-Time leading scorer, passing John Willis. Needing only 13 points he passed Willis shortly into the second half scoring an And-1 with the layup tying the record and the free throw breaking it. The future Hall of Famer finished the game with 19 points for 1, 759 career points.
"We are all really proud of
Quinn Nelson for becoming the SBU all-time leading scorer tonight! What an honor for a great player!" Sheehy said.
Another big performance came from junior forward
Ayden Stone who scored a career high 19 points off a perfect 8-8 from the field. This went along with eight rebounds, one assist, and one block.
"I mean I am just blessed to have the teammates around me that are so skilled that makes me open to shoot. I wouldn't be able to do anything without them and all the coaches putting us in the positions to win!" Stone said.
The Bearcats will return to play this Saturday as they travel to Indianapolis to take on the #6 ranked Greyhounds. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 2:00 PM CST.
