Fraslin’s Early Goal Leads to First Conference Win for the Bearcats

Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Men's Soccer team finished off their third week of conference-play at home against new GLVC members, Upper Iowa University. After 90 minutes, the Bearcats would end up on top with a 2-1 win over the Peacocks making them 2-6-1 (1-5 GLVC) on the season.

The Bearcats would start off strong as sophomore Titouan Fraslin would make a diving header off a cross from senior Callum Bisset to put the Bearcats in the lead in the 6th minute of the game. "We had a good start to the game and even the subs that came on kept the game in our favor. The opponents received a red card late in the first half and that allowed us to prepare well for the second half. We still had to manage the game well with the one man advantage and the boys executed the tactics very well" says head coach Sabelo Hlongwane

The game would stay at 1-0 for the Bearcats until the 66th minute when Tituan Fraslin dribbled down the left side of the field before passing it to senior Tumekie Blackwood who would pass it into the bottom right corner to put the Bearcats up 2-0. The Peacocks would score in the last minute of the game, but it would not be enough as the Bearcats would get their first conference win of the season.

"Some good individual performances from our goalkeeper Dawson Sozio. We created a lot of chances and need to work on finishing them but I am pleased with the result and the performance today. First Conference win this season and for my coaching career here at SBU and I look forward to adding to that result" adds Coach Hlongwane.

Southwest Baptist will be on the road next week to Illinois as they face the #23 team in the country, the University of Illinois-Springfield on Friday, 10/6, at 7:30 PM.
