Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU women's basketball team hosted the Rockhurst Hawks this evening in the Meyer Center. The Bearcats continued their defensive power and defeated the Hawks 69-59. This moves them to 9-9 (3-7 GLVC) on the season.
"We still have a lot of new pieces, a lot of young players, we are learning a lot and figuring some stuff out. So to put them in scenarios like this where they have to learn and take care of the basketball…I was really proud of our defensive intensity, this is a team that scores the ball a lot and we held them to 59."
Junior Tori Hamilton recorded her third double-double of the season with a career and game high 16 points and 11 rebounds.
"She really came in big for us, she stepped up, she bounced back every single time. She didn't let her get down and she just kept fighting, she was huge for us." Junior
Kallyn Stumbo said.
Stumbo also had a big game for the Bearcats playing a team high 30 minutes, scoring eight points on 60% shooting. She also dished out four assists and had 3 steals. Sophomore
Kelsey Blakemore scored 12 points with six rebounds and six assists.
The Bearcats will return to action this Saturday as they travel to William Jewell University. The Bearcats will look to extend their three-game winning streak against the Cardinals, at 1:00 PM in Liberty, Missouri.
