Sophomore Center Backs Step Up in Hard Fought Road Loss

Talhequah, Okla.-  The SBU Women's soccer team had their third straight road match this evening against the Northeastern State Riverhawks. The Bearcats fell in the game 0-1 moving to 0-2-1 on the season.

"We played very well and fought very hard. We had chances to score." Head Coach Stefan Skillman said, "Our girls did a great job being organized and played very well. I am very proud of their work rate."

It was a defensive battle with only a few shots on goal until the final minutes of the game where the Riverhawks ended that tie. Two Bearcat Sophomores stepped up big tonight in packing the defense, keeping it a tight game. Kendal Weiskopf from St. Louis, MO and Abby Youngblood also from St. Louis, MO both played the fully 90 minutes at the center back position.

"It was a really exciting and fun game to play in. We had a lot of good opportunities throughout the game and I am really looking forward to continuing this energy and play in to the season," Weiskopf said.

The Bearcats return home on Sunday, September 4th to play host to Northern State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM on the SBU Soccer Field.
