Bolivar, Mo.- The SBU men's soccer team had their home opener this afternoon as they hosted the Oklahoma Christian Eagles. The Bearcats played to their closest match of the season, falling to the Eagles 1-2. They moved to 0-3 on the season.
Â
"A good competitive game to watch. We had our chances and didn't take them which usually comes back to hurt later in the game and that's what happened to us." Said Head Coach
Sabelo Hlongwane, "I saw a lot of improvements with the squad, but we still have a lot to work on. Attitudes were better today than usual and that can take us far, later in the season. Looking forward to the next game for sure."
Â
The Bearcats had two great chances in the first half but couldn't put the ball in the back of the net and went into half trailing 0-1. SBU wouldn't give up and 15 minutes into the second half, Senior
David Sanchez played a ball over the defense right to a running
Titouan Fraslin. The freshman was able to get past the last defender and beat the goalkeeper sending it to the back of the net. That goal gave Fraslin his second goal of the season and tied the game at 1.Â
Â
"We have a lot of talent on the team this year who fully believe in our coach's new style of play." Sanchez said, "it is only a matter of time before we get it down and we are able to play good quality soccer, win games, and make history for this program"
Â
The Bearcats will be back at home on Monday, September 4
th where they will play host to Eastern New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM.
