Senior Prudencio Scores First Career Goal as Bearcats Tie the Greyhounds

Bolivar, Mo. -  The SBU men's soccer team played host to the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds this afternoon at Plaster Stadium. The Bearcats struck first but an unfortunate own goal caused the game to end in a 1-1 tie. They end non-conference play with a record of 0-3-1.

"A definite improvement regarding our effort on the field. We also had a great mindset from our subs which allowed us to stay competitive throughout the game." Said Head Coach Sabelo Hlongwane.

The Bearcat goal came in the 73rd minute by Senior defender Jonathan Prudencio who scored his first college career goal.

"Good team effort today at home from the whole group. We're taking steps in the right direction under the new coaching staff and today was a sign of it." Prudencio said, "On a personal level, I am very excited to have score my first collegiate goal and hope for more to come. Many thanks, to our fans for their support, means a lot to the team and we hope to have your support for next home game."

The Bearcats got a lot out of their Freshman goalkeeper Dawson Sozio this afternoon. Sozio was an crucial part of keeping the Bearcats in the game making 9 saves on the day.

"I am impressed with our Goalkeeper Dawson Sozio's effort and focus." Hlongwane said, "We also had a great presence in the middle of the field with midfielders taking control of the game at the right moments. We were unfortunate to concede an own goal but a good game none the less"

SBU men's soccer will return to the field this Sunday, September 11th. They will travel to Kirksville, Missouri to take on Truman State with a schedule kickoff time of 2:30 PM.
