Arkadelphia, Ark.- The SBU women's soccer team took on the Tigers of Ouachita Baptist this afternoon on the road. A late goal from the Tigers in the final ten minutes of the game handed the Bearcats a 1-2 loss. The loss moves SBU to 0-1-1 on the season.
 
"Another great learning opportunity; it's exciting to see our girls keep on fighting after getting scored on first and they did a great job getting a goal too." Head Coach Stefan Skillman "We put ourselves in a position to compete and that is exciting."
 
The game was evenly matched going into the final minute of the 1^st half until the Tigers snuck in a goal to take a 0-1 lead after 45 minutes. The Bearcat ladies fought back applying offensive pressure out of halftime. That pressure paid off when Freshman Tamerra Gantt rocketed a shot off the post where Sophomore Isabel Schelhammer was able to follow up the shot sticking the ball in the back of the net.
 
"I saw the opportunity to score after it ricocheted off the post and I was able to get to the front post to finish it." Schelhammer said "I was super excited to have gotten my first collegiate goal and to have been able to celebrate with my best friends and teammates."
 
That goal by Schelhammer came in the 65^th minute and tied the game up at one. SBU was unable to hold onto the tie when the Tigers scored in the final 10 minutes of the game to take the lead and the win.
 
The Bearcats next match will be on the road against former MIAA foe Northeastern State this Thursday September 1^st at 7:00pm. The last time these two met was a year ago in Bolivar where they ended in a tie.
