Bearcats Keep Peaking as They Defeat Bulldogs in Bolivar

Bolivar, Mo- The SBU Women's Basketball team played host to the Truman State Bulldogs this evening in the Meyer Wellness Center. The Bulldogs came into this game 4th in the GLVC, but that had no effect on the Bearcats as they won by a final score 75-52. That win moves the Bearcats to 15-12 (10-9 GLVC) on the season.

"Our team has definitely been peaking towards this moment. They have been playing really really inspired, they have been defending their tails off. They have been growing their confidence on the offensive end, this is definitely the crescendo of a peak we have been working hard towards. So proud of them, they are so fun to celebrate and be excited because we are playing really good basketball." -Head Coach Kelsey Keizer

The Bearcats outscored the Bulldogs in every quarter of the game. They started out with 17-12 lead after the first, then extended it to 31-25 at half. The real damage came when SBU outscored Truman 26-13 in the 4th quarter. The Bearcats went 10-15 from the field during that time, whereas the Bulldogs went 4-15 from the field.

"I'm really impressed with our defense, we went into the game and said number 13 is the best guard in the conference. And said when she doesn't play well, they don't play well. We held her to 3-13, which was by committee, a lot of people worked hard on her."

Senior Kyleigh Vaught received her 1,000-point ball before the game and tied for a team high with 16 points on the night. Kelsey Blakemore was the other Bearcat with 16 going 5-9 (55.5%) from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe. Mary Rose Foster was another big performer for the Bearcats scoring 12 points going 6-6 (75%) from the field.

With that win the Bearcats continue to strengthen their 8th place spot in the GLVC PRS standings. Since the GLVC transitioned to all teams making the conference tournament in this season, being in 8th place, SBU would host in the first round of the conference tournament this coming Monday February 28th. With teams only having one game remaining, the seedings and bracket will come out Saturday night where the Bearcats will find out who and where they play.

SBU will celebrate their Seniors on Saturday as they play host to the Hawks of Quincy University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM with Senior presentation following afterwards.
