Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's basketball team began conference play today as they took on the Missouri S&T Miners. The Bearcats trailed at half but a 26-5 run led the Bearcats to a 78-75 win. They remain undefeated moving to 5-0 (1-0 GLVC) on the season.
The Bearcats were led in scoring by redshirt freshman
Noah Franklin who scored a career high 23 points. He also had his first career double-double with 11 rebounds and led the team in blocks with three.
"It felt really good, they are a good team and have some really good pieces and play really well together." Franklin said, "Every day we are in there battling against each other for games like this, we know they are all going to be hard. To come out with a big win like this to start out conference, it just feels really good."
"I thought he made some really good plays and I thought he helped us on the defensive end in the second half and he anchored down our defense and gave us some really good possessions" Head Coach
Clark Sheehy said, "he is going to keep growing and getting better and I thought he made some timely offensive plays on our end. He is super coachable and improving and that's fun to see.
Junior
RJ Crawford also had a big game in scoring 21 points and pulling down seven rebounds. Senior
Quinn Nelson scored 12 points going three of six from the field. Sophomore
Drew McMillin came of the bench knocking down three 3-pointers for nine total points.
The Bearcats will return to action on Monday as they play host to the Missouri St. Louis Tritons. The Tritons are the only other team in the GLVC that is still undefeated and comes into this matchup ranked 24
th in the Nation. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
