Nashville, Tenn. – The SBU men's basketball team finished up their trip in Nashville this afternoon with a matchup against Ferris State University. The Bulldogs appeared in the polls with 33 votes but that didn't stop the Bearcats as they took them down 72-65. That gives them their first 2-0 start against Division II teams since 2015.
"I thought our guys played with a lot of focus and energy today. Ferris State is a very good team with a strong tradition. Proud of our guys and their competitiveness." Head Coach
Clark Sheehy said, "we have so many areas we need to improve and get better at and we will keep working hard to improve."
The Bearcats were led in scoring by their redshirt freshman
Noah Franklin who finished the game with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Right behind him were seniors
Quinn Nelson and
Mitch Ganote with 18 points and 12 points respectively. Despite only shooting 17% from beyond the arc it was the Bearcats aggression that won them the game. They outscored the Bulldogs 29 to 14 from the charity stripe.
"I'm super proud of our guys." Ganote said, "picked up two wins over two good teams. We played really hard and had to fight to come out of there with two W's. Now we have to get back to work and get ready for conference play coming up."
Southwest Baptist will play in their home opener this coming Tuesday as they take on Ozark Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM in the Meyer Center.
