Quincy, Ill. - The Bearcats hit the road Thursday for their first road trip in nearly a month. Kicking things off right, SBU defeated Quincy 75-53 on their home court. With the win, SBU improves to 8-5 (3-2 GLVC) on the season.
The game got off to a hot start, beginning with a
Kyleigh Vaught three pointer just 33 seconds into the contest. A few minutes later,
Emma Perry nailed a three of her own, pushing SBU's lead to 8-5 early on. Quincy responded and took the lead, but seven points from
Faith Gilkey and a basket from
Mary Rose Foster put SBU ahead 19-15 after the first. The teams stayed even for a majority of the second quarter, but SBU pulled ahead toward the end.
Kallyn Stumbo hit a pair of free throws,
Leikyn Walker drained a three, and
Faith Gilkey made a shot as time expired to make the score 37-25 at the half.Â
Nyah Pettus scored the first bucket out of the break, pushing SBU's lead to 14. Late in the third, Quincy cut SBU's lead to 8, but
Faith Gilkey and
Leikyn Walker made back-to-back three's to keep ahead. The fourth quarter was a show from
Kyleigh Vaught, scoring 12 points in the final frame. Free throws helped seal the win, a 75-63 final score.
Vaught led both teams with 22 points on the night. She also had 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Faith Gilkey hit double digits with 13 points, and
Nyah Pettus had 10 rebounds in the win.Â
The team continues their road trip Saturday with a contest against Southern Indiana at 1:00 PM.Â
