Bearcats Defense Holds Strong in Win Over the Saints

Bolivar, Mo- The SBU Women's Basketball team took on the Maryville Saints in Bolivar, Mo this afternoon. The Bearcats led almost the whole way and won by a final score of 58-55. That win moves the Bearcats to 11-9 (6-6 GLVC) on the season.

"I'm really proud of our kids, just for their fight, especially in that third quarter. First and second quarter we fought it out in the first half." Head Coach Kelsey Keizer, "In the third quarter we strung together stops and transition scores, which is what we want to do, and they did that and created a lot of excitement for themselves and gave themselves the cushion that we got in the 4th quarter."

As a team the Bearcats went 19-49 from the field for 38.8% and 5-13 (38.5%) from the three-point line. The defense held the saints to 32% from the field and 29% from beyond the arc. Three Bearcats scored in double digit, two being Nyah Pettus and Mary Rose Foster, each with 10 points. Senior guard Kyleigh Vaught led the Bearcats in points for the 10th time this season; tonight she had 17. She also brought down 6 rebounds and dished out 6 assists

"My team trusts me and that puts a lot of trust in myself, that gives me confidence to see that my teammates have confidence in me and when I'm not hitting, I know that I can find them and they'll hit and tonight we played together, we had fun and it was really fun to play out there," said Vaught.
