Liberty, Mo. - The SBU Volleyball team continued their road stretch with a mid-week matchup at William Jewell Tuesday evening. The Bearcats put their foot to the pedal early and never looked back, taking the match 3-0. With the win, SBU improves to 6-7 (2-3 GLVC) on the year.
Set one was absolutely dominated by SBU. Early on, the match was even at 1-1, but the Bearcats scored 7 straight to take an 8-1 lead. The rest of the match was more of the same, SBU taking leads of 17-3 and 22-4 before ending 25-7. The second set was much closer, as the Bearcats found themselves down 17-15 at one point. Bouncing back, SBU took a 23-20 lead and went on to win the set 25-23. Set three was even tighter, a set made up of runs by both teams. Southwest Baptist trailed 24-21 in the set, but scored four straight to take a 25-24 lead. A few back-and-forth points later, the Bearcats won the set 29-27 and the match 3-0.
Loran Pritchett nearly had another double-double, recording 35 digs and 9 assists.
Ashley Lasher led both teams with 13 kills and
Rachel Francis finished with 11.
Lauren Compton finished with a team-high 4 blocks on the night.Â
SBU's road stretch concludes on Friday as the team travels to Rolla, MO to face the Missouri S&T Miners. That match will begin at 6:00 PM.
