Women’s Soccer Puts 12 Shots On Goal in 1-0 Loss to Kentucky Wesleyan

Owensboro, Ky. – The SBU Women's Soccer team kicked off the fall 2021 season on the road against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers Thursday evening. Despite all the shots on goal, SBU fell to the hosts 1-0. Their record on the year goes to 0-1 (0-0 GLVC).

A little over 20 minutes into the game, the Panthers recorded the first shot on goal, but Alli Harrington was there for the save. Not long after, Raegan Edwards put on goal as well. Late in the first half, Ashlynn Robinson, Isabel Schelhammer, and Brooklyn Duncan all made a shot on goal, but none would find the back of the net.

It didn't take the Panthers long in the second half to score, taking a 1-0 lead with about 38 minutes left in the game. Rachel Wolecki responded shortly after with a shot on goal, but the KWC keeper made the save. Maya Cofield and Isabel Schelhammer recorded a few more shots on goal midway through the second half. With less than two minutes on the clock, Allyson Leiber gave the Bearcats a chance with a shot on goal, but Kentucky Wesleyan sealed it, 1-0. Alli Harrington recorded 5 saves in the loss.

The team was scheduled to face Union University on Saturday, but the Bulldogs were forced to cancel the contest due to COVID protocols. SBU will return to action on September 9 as they host Northeastern State for their home opener at 7:00 PM.
