Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU Football team was back at home after taking on the defending national champions last weekend. The University of Findlay Oilers were the visitors, as well as the victors, taking Saturday's shootout by a score of 62-41. With the loss, SBU drops to 0-3 (0-0 GLVC) on the young season.
SBU won the toss and chose to take the ball first. On the first play of the game,
Cooper Callis found
Cassian Foreman for 23 yards. The Bearcats picked up another first down on the next play, but were forced to punt shortly after. Findlay's first drive ended in a three and out, giving the Bearcats the ball back on their own 31-yard line. On a 3
rd and 11,
Cooper Callis connected with
Cassian Foreman for 42 yards and the first score of the game. The Oilers responded with two quick scores, taking a 14-7 lead after the first quarter.
The first portion of the second quarter was controlled by Findlay, as they took a 28-7 lead. However, Callis found
Preston Carson for a 25-yard touchdown just before halftime to cut the deficit to 28-14.
Findlay received the ball to start the second half and went on to score, but SBU responded with a 17-yard touchdown pass from Callis to
Jordan Kent to keep up with the visitors. Again, the teams exchanged scores, this time it was Callis finding
Abel Carter up the middle of the field, 42-27 in favor of UF. The Oilers would score once more before the end of the third, taking a 49-27 lead.
SBU opened the fourth quarter with a failed fourth down attempt, and UF went on to score again. Not long after,
Cassian Foreman caught a pass from Callis and was off to the races, scoring on a 63-yard passing play. Findlay responded with a score, making the final 62-41 in favor of the visitors.
Cooper Callis threw 6 touchdown passes on the day, tied for the most in a single game in SBU history. He completed 30-40 passes for 450 yards as well. Those 450 yards are the fourth most in a single game in school history.
Cassian Foreman was the primary target, hauling in 6 receptions for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Preston Carson had his second 100-yard performance of the year, making 7 catches for 111 yards and a score.
Jordan Kent caught 2 touchdown passes on 8 catches for 89 yards as well. Once again,
Coleton Smith was the leader on defense, collecting 18 tackles which led both teams.
The team hits the road for their final non-conference matchup of the season, taking on Lake Erie College on Saturday, September 25. Kickoff for that game will be at 5:00 PM.
