Denton, Tex. – Wrapping up their second tournament of the season, the SBU Volleyball team fell to Ouachita Baptist and Texas Permian Basin in two close matches Saturday afternoon. The losses drop the team to 4-4 (0-0 GLVC) on the year.
Match One
The Bearcats began the day with a match against Ouachita Baptist. SBU won the first set 25-21, but dropped the second set in a very tight 25-23 finish and the third set 25-19. Despite trailing the match 2-1, SBU bounced back and had a strong fourth set with a 25-18 victory. The final set was as close as it could get, but went to OBU in a 15-13 final. SBU had individuals leading the kills, blocks, assists, and digs categories. Rachel Francis finished with 15 kills, Sydney Ernsbarger recorded 5 blocks, Loran Pritchett added another 40 assists, and Paityn Kramer had 35 digs.
Match Two
In the second match of the day against Texas Permian Basin, the Bearcats fell 3-0. The first and second set finished with identical scores of 25-19, and the third set took an extra point with a 26-24 finish. Loran Pritchett recorded a double-double, finishing with 24 assists and 14 digs on the night. Azalea Clendenning led the team with 9 kills and 2 blocks.
The team will return to action on Thursday, September 16 as they host Highway 13 rival, Drury, for their home opener. That match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
