Denton, Tex. – The SBU Volleyball team was back in action Friday night, taking on Southwestern Oklahoma State and Texas Woman's University at the Denton Volleyfest. Despite the 3-1 and 3-0 losses, both matches were very close. With the losses, SBU moves to 4-2 (0-0 GLVC) on the year.
Match One
SBU got off to a slow start in the first set, dropping the first 6 points of the match. Although rallying back to down 12-10, the Bearcats dropped the first set 25-17. After trailing 5-2 in the second set, SBU went on a 7-point streak to take a solid lead, ending in favor of SBU 25-18. The third set was very back and forth, eventually won by SWOSU 25-23. The fourth set was also very close, but SBU fell 25-23 again to drop the match 3-1.

Lauren Compton (12 digs), and
Sydney Ernsbarger (4 blocks) all led their respective categories between both teams.
Match Two
Against Texas Woman's, the Bearcats found themselves trailing 20-9 in the first set. They tried to rally back, but the comeback couldn't be completed, resulting in a 25-18 score. The second set went back and forth, but also ended in favor of TWU, 25-22. In a tight third set, TWU scored the final five points to take the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Rachel Francis led the team with 7 kills in the match,
Loran Pritchett had 15 assists, and
Aleena Peterson recorded 14 digs.
The Denton Volleyfest continues on Saturday, as the team takes on Ouachita Baptist at 11:30 AM and Texas Permian Basin at 4:30 PM.
