Bolivar, Mo. – The week began with a Monday afternoon tennis match between the Bearcats and the Lindenwood Lions at the
John Bryant Tennis Center on the campus of Southwest Baptist University. SBU completed a clean sweep of the Lions, winning the match 7-0 to improve to 11-5 (1-0 GLVC) on the year. The women's team is 2-1 against teams in the GLVC, but the conference standings are divided into a West division and an East division. SBU has only played one member of the GLVC West division, going 1-0 in divisional play.
Catarina Zheng and
Constanca Crespo got things going with a 6-2 win on court 1. Doubles teams of
Dona Abohabaga and
Elsa Pascual on court 2 and
Diana Cabrera and
Lola Cincunegui on court 3 finished with identical scores of 6-3 to sweep doubles play and take a 1-0 lead.
The first three courts were absolutely dominated by SBU. They outscored Lindenwood by a combined score of 36-4.
Constanca Crespo was the first to finish, winning 6-1, 6-0 on court 3.
Dona Abohabaga followed shortly after with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court 1, and
Diana Cabrera won the match point with a two-set clean sweep of her opponent 6-0, 6-0 on court 2.
Catarina Zheng battled a tough first set to win 7-5, going on to win her second set 6-0 on court 4. Another two-set victory was claimed by
Lola Cincunegui on court 6, winning 6-4, 6-2. Completing the 7-0 sweep of the Lions was
Elsa Pascual, downing her opponent 6-4, 6-3 on court 5.
The team will head to the Kansas City area this weekend, taking on GLVC West opponents in Rockhurst and William Jewell.
